April 16, 2020

LONG ISLAND, NY — Nonprofit organization PinkTie has launched a doorstep donation pickup program, partnering with Nassau County Salvation Army to deliver food to Long Island food pantries. The free service is being offered with the help of Late Night Chauffeurs and Long Islanders looking to donate can text to arrange a pickup straight from their doorsteps.

The initiative, started last week, has a goal of bringing 10,000 pounds of food to food pantries in Nassau and Suffolk: Pastor Roger Blackmore of Genesis Church Food Pantry, Pastor Charles Roberts of Salvation Army Nassau, Mastic Beach Food Pantry and Babylon Food Pantry.

According to PinkTie, 54,000 living on Long Island are experiencing food insecurity during the coronavirus pandemic.

Residents who want to donate text their name, address and schedule a pickup time Monday through Friday between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m to 631-397-1234. Donations should be at minimum one shopping bag’s worth of items. Items needed include:
